TRADE NOTES
Messrs. International Model Aircraft have produced what we consider to be one of the finest plastic kits yet in their "Viscount 800”. Scale is l/96th and refinements such as cut-out cabin windows with moulded “glass” for cementing on the inside, plus a most accurate and comprehensive transfer sheet in the correct BEA colour scheme, enable the builder to produce an outstanding model. We were impressed, too, with the comprehensive assembly instructions including a special set for the transfer sheet which give useful tips such as sliding the long fuselage strips off the backing paper sidetv. ys in order to prevent stretch. Having watched Junior struggle with these in the past we know ibis is sound advice and says much for the careful preparation that has gone into this kit. Undercarriage parts, propellers, spinners, fronts of nacelles, and crew cabin windows, etc., are all separate parts, with a handsome stand including swivel joint and transfer nameplate all included. Cement and a small bottle of white paint complete a real “value for monov” kit at the modest price of 14s. 6d.
Below, latest from I.M.A. is the plastic Viscount 800, a faultless queen among the vast selection now available. With separate windows, super accurate detail and fine transfers. In lower picture we show how it forms a perfect mate for the earlier Hawk Viscount 700 to identical scale of 1/96

PLASTIKITICISMS
A critical comment by reader W. R. Matthews, with kit manufacturers' observations
The first point is inaccuracy of markings. This falls under various headings — badly printed glossy transfers, inaccurate colours of plastic, insufficient instructions given for finishing etc. Why did not Frog check the colour of B.E.A.'s red for the markings of the Viscount, instead of producing these in the brownish colour that they are?
Some of the earlier ones were admittedly slightly off colour, owing to the method of printing the first batch, but present ones are an exact match with a colour sample supplied by B.E.A,—FROG.

"The BEA version got completely new decals in the new livery around 1964 and the instruction
sheet was altered accordingly, although the box did stay the same. It is believed that only some
5,000 kits were sold with the new decals. The KLM version was shown as 362P in all catalogues
and lists, but this number was not used on the kit itself. The Viscount was the only
one of the 1/96 scale airliners to have window openings in the fuselage sides."
