In their 2s 9d range plastics, latest are the Thunderbolt, Typhoon, Kittyhawk and Fw190. The plastic parts are moulded in the colour of the undersides of the respective aircraft so that only the upper surface need camouflage. Future additions will include the Wellington, Hapmden, Spitfire, Lancaster, D.H.Rapide and Blenheim.

The latest addition to the FROG "World War Fighters" series of 1/72nd plastic models is Spitfire. Much care has been devoted to the preparation of this model, particularly around the engine cowling, the exact shape of which seems to elude most manufacturers.

Production of the long awaited Rotodyne is also well advanced, and it may be in the shop by the time this issue appears. Other FROG plastics in preparation are the Blenheim, Hampden and Wellington.

Altough no price has yet been fixed they will probably retail for around 3s 6d each, and will, we are sure, be extremly popular.

From FROG this month we have a long awaited addition to thier 2s 6d World War II Fighters series in the shape of the Spitfire Mk II. Modeled in light-blue plastic to 1/72nd scale, attractivly boxed kit makes up into an accurate reproduction of one of the prettiest marks of Spit.

Some of the less hackneyed prototypes are now being investigated by the plastic manufacturers. One result of this is the production of the Handley Page Hampden now available from FROG at 3s 6d This price includes cement, and brown and green camouflage paint. Its companion model, at the same price, is the Vickers Armstrong Wellington. The moulding in both these kits are well up to the high I.M.A. standard and they go together very well. It is unfortunate that these two otherwise excelent models are marred by not being to an acceptable scale. The Wellington is 1/116th scale and the Hampden 1/100th.

Under 1 pound

An aircraft in the news at the present time is the Fairey Rotodyne and FROG have a 1/72nd scale plastic kit of this fascinating machine. The mouldings are neat, the front door opens, and the rotor hub is well detaild. When mounted on the stand, included with the kit, this makes an impressive model with a rotor diameter of almost 15 in! price is 12s 6d.

Trade Notes

Frog's 1/99th scale Handley Page Hampden and 1/115th Wellington are attractive W.W. II additions to their 3/6 range of plastics, The pity of the new series, beside the scale variations, is the apparent lack of research for authentic markings. Letters should be either grey or red. Same applies to the Wellington with WP-F markings for 90 Squadron.

New British World War II aircraft kits

The Wellington has been very neglected, with only one, very inaccurate, kit in any scale still available (Frog did have a 1/96 scale kit at one time).

Apart from the engraved decal positions, the surface detailing of this kit is unusually lightly done.

Although not yet positively proved, it is believed that the moulds for the Rapide, Rotodyne and small-scale Blenheim, Hampden and Wellington were left behind in France and eventually scrapped there.
